They say that first impressions are the ones that count, and I would have to agree when it comes to the Gold Company whom I first met in September 2010.

I was asked to go there on behalf of a family member who had a little gold to sell and they had heard Ray Hadlee advising people, on the radio, that the Gold Company was the best place to go.

My thoughts of big business these days were that they are mostly cold and calculating and that I was just ‘a little fish in a very big pond’ and at 83 years of age, it actually took some courage to enter the Gold Company’s Offices. However, it was a warm and friendly place I discovered and I was soon put at ease by all the staff there. There were family photos and messages from children and so very different from what I had expected. My transaction was dealt with in a friendly manner, albeit only of small consequence. It was a reminder of how business was conducted in my earlier years. My Mother had been a business woman in a small English town where her business reputation was very important. Each of her customers’ was  treated respectfully, often personally, given time and patience, which consequently brought them back time and time again.   She had integrity which people could rely on. Small time business, no doubt, but the same should be applied in the big business world of today. I may be a cynic but the opposite is very often the case. The Gold Company, however, are in a class of their own and their business ethics are of the highest degree. They are so very professional, yet have all those important personal human qualifications. I received all the old fashioned curtesies, so lacking these days and just so refreshing that I would not hesitate to recommend anyone to go there for their services. They have won two Business Awards this year alone which speaks volumes in itself.

After the small business arrangement that day, there was no rush to get me out the door, and the conversation with Roy was more general. He talked about taking part in the Sydney Running Festival Marathon that weekend, and as it happened, I was taking part in the Bridge Run for my 7th year. We had something in common although I was twice his age, we both liked to compete, keep fit and stay healthy. That meeting extended into their offering me a sponsorship which has now changed my life completely but only in all the good ways imaginable. That first impression has only strengthened my belief in their ‘goodness of heart’ which has been shown to me over the past 14 months and grown into a very warm relationship. As Dan, from the Company once said to me, that although they were in business that they also wanted to give something back to the community. This has been partly achieved this year as they helped me raise money for Cancer, paying $10.00 a lap in the ‘Relay for Life’ annual event which resulted in my walking 225 laps with a final figure of $5,332.00 going  to this worthy cause. I would do it again in a heartbeat knowing that the Gold Company would be behind me 100%. They also sponsor Gary Meyers who has already raised almost $60,000.00 for his children’s charities and will attempt to swim the English Channel again next year. With their help I have achieved one of my dreams too, by winning four gold medals in the Australian Masters’ Games in October this year and they have celebrated this with me. They are just the nicest people, take it from me.
